Our organization exists to economically empower women to rise above their difficult circumstances and achieve their life goals. What we do is powerful and transformative.
By reaching girls while they are still young, we not only can help them stay healthy and safe in the short term, but we can reduce the number of women in crisis in the future.
In its first fifteen years, LUNAFEST received over 10,000 submissions, worked with 115 female directors, and had female directed films viewed by more than 300,000 people.
Shamayel was born to human rights activists in Afghanistan. When she was a young girl her parents defied the Taliban and sent Shamayel to an underground school. It was an incredibly brave move with deadly consequences.
See the impact of Dream It, Be It, which provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams.
In 2000, LUNA started LUNAFEST® ,
a traveling film festival celebrating, showcasing and championing women in film.
LUNAFEST is making a mark in the industry by creating a platform for women’s untold stories and working to increase opportunity for women filmmakers.
